Longer Deployment for Florida Guard Troops

By: Associated Press

Friends, family and employers of Florida's far-away Guard troops had been hoping they'd return home sometime this fall, but the Army now says the deployment is being extended to a full 12 months, meaning a return home sometime between February and April of next year.

The troops and their families are not happy about it. The wife of one officer says she e-mailed with her husband yesterday, and he says his troops are "homesick and they feel they have done their part.''

Florida National Guard troops began mobilizing last December. They were shipped to the Persian Gulf from February to April of this year.

There are about 18-hundred Florida National Guard troops in Iraq.
