Local Students Get Government Lesson from Lawmakers

As part of 'America's legislators back to school week', lawmakers are playing teacher to educate students about government.

Right off Rep. Curtis Richardson grabbed the attention of Nims Middle School students by telling them he was their nearby neighbor.

This week Richardson and thousands of other state lawmakers across the country are taking time out to teach government 101. Richardson mapped out the legislative process from the federal to state level. Although a tough topic, the representative got a passing grade when it came to his presentation.

This initiative is sponsored by the National Conference of State Legislators. Later this week, Richardson will teach at Rickards and East Gadsden High School.
