The district health department is working with county committees to develop a disaster plan.
In Valdosta for example, flu patients would not go to the emergency room at South Georgia Medical Center.
Rather, nearby Mathis Auditorium would be set up as a triage center.
"We have time to plan and the authorities in all the communities are looking at that, and hopefully if this even comes by the time it comes, or if it comes, we will be prepared and have the capacity to help the people," said health official Mike Terwilliger.
According to the plan, the individual county committees would work with all aspects of the community including schools, businesses and churches.
