46-year-old Brenda Coney was arrested for shooting and killing 37-year-old Shannon McCants. Police said Coney shot McCants several times and one bullet struck McCants in the head.
Witnesses said Coney got angry when McCants told her to go to the back of the line. McCants was a graduate of the FAMU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Studies. News of her death shocked members of the program.
"It definitely saddens me because when you come to FAMU they incorporate a family type of feeling, so I feel like that is one of my family members that I just lost. Even though I didn't directly know her I know what she went through to get that degree," said Jeremy Johnson, a pharmacy major at FAMU.
Police said there is no known prior connection between McCants and Coney. Coney is charged with murder.
