What do these two men have in common? Their love for Shiloh.
For the past 8 weeks Reginald Fields has been training her in the Wakulla Correctional Institution. And now Shiloh is an adoptable, obedient pet.
But the canines aren't the only ones who've come full circle. "The dogs have taught me a whole lot about myself, how to manage things. Like I said, I get my peace that way," said Fields.
Shiloh is just one of 10 dogs graduating from the Wakulla Paws in Prison Program, which gives these rescued pups, and inmates a second chance.
"The change in the inmates from the beginning til now and how they work together, what it means to them, their self-esteem. And then for the dogs, the families lives that we have touched has been phenomenal," said Cathy Sherman, the Paws in Prison President.
The 5th graduating class also marks the one year anniversary of the program. And inmates like Fields, who've been here since the beginning know the hardest part is handing over the leash of their new found friend.
"And I cried last night. It's hard letting her go. I've had three dogs and she's been like the cream of the crop of the three that I've had. She's been my favorite," said Fields.
David Vann has agreed to adopt Shiloh and says he can't wait to get acquainted with his new buddy. "I don't normally take weekends off, but Friday, Saturday, Sunday, I'm off to spend time with Shiloh," said Vann.
And who says you can't have more than one best friend.
So far 56 dogs have graduated from this program. For more information about Paws in Prison click on the link below.
