Apalachee Elementary students are rhyming their way to success in the classroom. Teachers say poetry emphasizes the sound and rhythm of language. They also say poems help increase vocabulary and enunciation skills. Janice Mazza, a library teacher, says, "I'll find that later on after we used a word in a poem that we're reading in class that they'll use that same word so their developing their vocabulary. They are learning how to say a lot of these words that they might not normally come in contact with." Apalachee Elementary teachers are also encouraging parents to participate in poetry readings with their children.
