Thomasville police are warning residents to keep their belongings safe, and to prevent themselves from becoming easy targets. Officers say people are cheerful this time of year and may forget to protect themselves from holiday crooks.
LT Rachelle Denmark with the Thomasville Police Department said, "The thing a criminal needs is opportunity. That's the one thing that they need. If you give them the opportunity, they're going to take it."
Some tips police want to reinforce are lock your car doors, do not leave gifts in plain view, and when you leave your house close your blinds or curtains, because police say exposing your Christmas tree is a sure way to attract burglars.
