City of Tallahassee release:

Each year, thousands of kittens are born during spring and summer, and 4 million cats end up in animal shelters, waiting for loving homes. To promote adoption of these playful, affectionate animals, American Humane celebrates Adopt-A-Cat Month® in June. Come visit the fabulous felines at the Tallahassee-Leon Community Animal Service Center (ASC), located at 1125 Easterwood Drive by Tom Brown Park, and take home your new best friend!

To help encourage adoptions during the month of June, the Animal Service Center is reducing the cat adoption fee to $25 from $50. If you also adopt a companion cat or kitten, the ASC will waive the fee for the second adoption. You read correctly: Buy one cat at half-price and get the second one free! Sterilization fees will still apply. All cats adopted through the ASC are micro-chipped, and many are already spayed or neutered.

Cats make wonderful companions. They are playful, affectionate, independent, self-cleaning animals that can reduce your blood pressure and keep you smiling with their antics. They also don’t need to be housebroken, as using the litter box comes naturally to them. Cats are good indoor pets that don’t need a lot of space to thrive, making them perfect for apartments and smaller homes. Taking care of a cat is also a great way to help teach children humane values and responsibility.

The ASC is operated and maintained by the City’s Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs Department. It is open Tuesday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Check out its online kennel and more information about adopting through the ASC online at Talgov.com.

Remember, don’t buy; opt to adopt!

The number of kittens this year have already exceeded expectation - and it's only the beginning of kitten season. Please support your community by adopting from a humane society, shelter, or rescue group.
