(AP) - A state Senate committee's report is recommending ways to reduce underage and excessive drinking at Florida colleges.
The 60-page report by the Senate Committee on Regulated Industries includes recommendations that will be considered during the 2007 legislative session.
The report recommends limiting college nights at bars with proposed restrictions on promotions on discounted beer; prohibiting the consumption of alcohol by people under 21 (current law prohibits possession, not consumption); allowing the driver license of an 18-to-20-year-old trying to purchase alcohol to be revoked; and allowing bartenders to take driver licenses they believe to be fake.
Mitch Rubin, executive director of the Florida Beer Wholesalers Association, says enforcing the suggested prohibitions of drink specials would be “nearly impossible.”
