FAMU Students Remember Nefertiti Williams

Hundreds of people consisting of family, friends and co-workers shared thoughts and memories of Nefertiti Williams. Emotions poured from loved ones finding it difficult to cope with her death.

The memorial for Williams began with a candle lit vigil in front of the Eternal Flame on FAMU's campus. Many were sobbing, torn by the idea of continuing life without Williams.

Friends spoke about the times they shared with Williams. Family and friends wore shirts with a picture of Williams.

Above the pictures read: "We Will Always Miss You." Friends released twenty balloons into the sky, one for each year Williams lived.

The crowd then walked to the pharmacy building to speak of what type of person Williams was. The room filled with laughter and cheers in celebration of Williams’ life and legacy at FAMU.

"Whether we had problems, stories coming up out of the blue Nefertiti could handle anything, and she did it with grace. She did it with style. She never missed a beat," said Sidney Wright, a co-worker at the FAMUAN of Williams.

The Student Government Association dedicated a proclamation to her family and Faces Modeling Troupe strutted the auditorium in honor of one of their own.

"She would be amazed right now but she would be very appreciative, but all the crying and everything that's going on right now she wouldn't have that. She would tell everybody to stop crying, grow up and just suck it up and move on because she wouldn't want us to get hung up on something like this," said Benjamin Petrose, a close friend of Williams.

The memorial was for those in Tallahassee who may not be able to make to Bradenton, FL where Williams will be laid to rest.
