Rape Awareness on College Campuses

Updated: Tue 6:17 PM, Sep 23, 2003

Tuesday Florida A&M University students, both women and men learned about the reality of rape. FAMU was one of 500 campuses nationwide Tuesday asking students if they had been carded.

We asked students if they would know what to do if they were sexually assaulted, but the reality is it happens. National statistics show one in five women are sexually assaulted, and one in seven men are victimized as well.

Counselors say that's a popular opinion that's unfortunately untrue. Victim advocates say the majority of sexual assault cases go unreported. They're hoping the informational cards will encourage victims to come forward.
