AFAT John Ashcroft
Part of his remarks dealt with the justice systems response to 9/11. As he put it, we did not seek this struggle, but we embrace this cause.
Ashcroft says the justice department success is measured by no major terrorist attacks in the past two years and crime rates 30-year lows.
Ashcroft says the patriot act has let the government use some of the same tactics against terrorism that have been used against organized crime. He says it's simple: crime is prevented by locking up criminals.
A handful of protestors gathered outside with signs against the patriot act. Civil libertarian feel the patriot act violates the bill of rights; especially because of it's eased rules for government searches. He was just in and out in about an hour.
