Florida's Department of Education Establishes New Exams

Teachers receive money for their students’ academic success through the STAR program.

But if a teacher does not have FCAT subjects in their school they do not qualify, so Florida's Department of Education has come up with a clearinghouse, which is an end of the course exam that all districts can participate in if they choose to.

"The Department of Education is going to make available to all districts in the state of Florida a number of tests. I believe it's between 300 to 400 tests. They call them end of course tests. It may be end of semester tests or maybe end of year tests in a variety of subjects," said Paul Felsch, Director of Leon County Schools Testing and Assessment.

The Sunshine State is providing these tests free of charge.
