The new year calls for a new phone book, and that means millions of phone books are being thrown out.
Two Leon County elementary schools have a place to toss out your old book. DeSoto Trail and Bond Elementary are participating in a little competition to see who can recycle the most phone books.
"These kids are getting excited for sure, but the main thing is kids are really thinking about our community and that we all can recycle these phone books and won't have to kill a tree," said Cookie Zimmer, a DeSoto Trail Elementary teacher.
The winner will receive a $3,500 grant, and the runner-up gets a $1,500 grant.
The competition is being sponsored by R.H. Donnelley, the printer of the Embark phone book.
