Leon County residents are being reminded that just because the hurricane season is over, it's no time to become complacent.
The county's Emergency Operations Center Director, Richard Smith, warns that hurricanes are not the only weather disaster with the potential to wreak havoc on the area.
Smith said, "We want to remind people in 92, Hurricane Andrew hit in an off year and an El Nino year. The following March in 93, we had a ‘no name’ storm that had almost the same impact of a hurricane in this area and quite a bit of loss of life on coastal areas."
Smith says there's potential for severe winter storms, bringing tornadoes and rain.
