Jared Fogle, the face of Subway, gained national attention with his amazing weight loss story. He's is town this weekend to kick off the American Heart Walk, but that's not all.
Jared Fogle, better known as "the Subway guy", got a movie star's welcome at McClay Middle School Friday morning. This type of fan fare is the last thing Jared expected five years ago when he topped the scale at 425 pounds and was desperate to find a solution.
"This is the most surreal life I could ever imagine. I just wanted to get the weight off, I didn't want anyone to know or care, I just wanted the weight off. This is the icing on the cake for me!" Jared says.
Jared successfully lost 245 pounds in just under a year by eating subs, now he travels the world encouraging students not to go down the same path he did and start eating right and exercising early in life, but his message went even deeper than that.
"You've got to believe in yourself and you've got to want to do something- it's not just going to happen. You can climb out of the bottom of the barrel and you can be something, whether it's better grades, family, weight, whatever."
After his motivational speech, Jared opened the floor for questions. Students asked Jared what his favorite sub is; chicken teriyaki, and what he did with all of his old clothes (donated to charity.) And, yes that is his real wife in the commercials.
All in all, it seems like the message is really sinking in. Jared says he doesn't eat Subway sandwiches every day anymore, all things in moderation. You can meet Jared at the American Heart Walk Saturday morning at Southwood at 9 a.m.
