Florida A&M University is sponsoring a school supply drive for the southside.

Believe it or not, FAMU officials are hoping for turnovers this Saturday, not on the field but off the field and into the classroom. The Rattlers are sponsoring a school supply drive to help K-12 students on the southside.

"For families that have more than one child it becomes a financial burden for them, four to five weeks into the school years many have exhausted those school supplies already," says Dr. Madie Gainous.

FAMU is asking football fans to bring pencils, pens, glue, notebooks and book bags to the stadium. Bins will be located at the entrance gates.

At Wesson Elementary, school leaders say some of the stories break your heart.

"I had one little boy who came into the office wanted a new book bag, his strap was broken, he went tearing down the hall to show his friends his new book bag, so it's all worth it," says principal Dr. Pam Hightower.

The supplies will be distributed to all schools on the southside. Dr. Gainous says if everyone pitches in, Saturday's game could truly be a win-win situation.

If you're not attending the game but would like to help out, you can drop your donations off at the FAMU Police Department Monday.
