A Tallahassee high school teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a student is now free on bond.

24 year old Karolyn Nagel posted a 10-thousand dollar bond Wednesday night after her arrest for two felonies.

Booking records show she turned herself in at 9:16pm and was released at 9:37pm.

The former Lincoln High School science teacher is accused of traveling to Orlando to have sex with a male student.

Arrest papers say the two exchanged thousands of text messages and phone calls.

Nagel resigned from her job soon after deputies started investigating and a spokeswoman with the Department of Education says it could be months before a decision is made about Nagel's teaching certificate.

On November 5, 2008, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office was advised by the Department of Children and Families of a complaint they had received in reference to a Lincoln High teacher, Karolyn Nagel, who was possibly sexually involved with a seventeen year old student. A Leon County Sheriff’s Office Detective interviewed both Nagal and the student about the allegations and both denied any sexual or inappropriate relationship existed or had occurred.

On December 22, 2008, additional information was received by the Leon County Sheriff’s Office that during an out of town trip, Nagel and the student may have been involved in sexual activity.

During this investigation, Nagal and the victim maintained their relationship was not of a sexual or inappropriate nature; however, after an intensive investigation, which included interviews and obtaining cell phone records of text messages, it appears Nagel and the victim were sexually involved.

Detectives discovered that Nagal and the victim had called or texted each other thousands of times between September 01, 2008 and January 26, 2009. Many of the text messages between Nagal and the victim were sexually explicit.

Due to these sexually explicit text messages between Nagel and the victim, it has been determined that crimes did occur. Nagel is charged with traveling to meet a minor and computer pornography.
