A bomb scare forced the Tallahassee Police Department to evacuate and close several streets around the station.

Authorities say shortly after 11 a.m. Saturday morning a man came to the department with a device he purchased at a garage sale. Police say the man took it to an officer, who was in the parking lot, to examine. The officer was suspicious of the device and contacted his superior officers.

"It consisted of some pipe materials with end caps and wires coming out of it connected to another end cap made out of metal. The officer found it to be suspicious also, notified chain of commands," said Lt. Edward Smith, with the Tallahassee Police Department.

Officers blocked several streets adjacent to the department as the bomb squad worked to detonate the device. This case is still under investigation.
