A new study shows that folks in Valdosta make well below the national average.
The Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce recently hired a consulting firm to analyze Valdosta's average yearly wages.
Results show the Azalea city makes an average of $27,000 a year...which is only 60% of the national average of $46,000 a year.
"Knowledge is everything and sometimes, people just may not have been aware that it is a problem. It's a fact. We are pretty well-below the average for the state," said Dana Massingill, TBEC Committee Member for the Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce.
On a positive note, the analysis shows that Valdosta has not lost as many manufacturing jobs as other cities in Georgia.
The Chamber hopes to use this data to work with local industries and bring more higher-paying jobs to the area.
