12-12-06 - The first phase of renovation of the Leon County Courthouse is now in the books. The result is two new courtrooms, holding cells, three new judicial chambers, and even deposition rooms.
Chief Judge Charles Francis recognized those who helped with the remodeling process including county commissioners. Court administrators say the addition was much needed due to a growing number of visitors.
Grant Slayden, Trial Court Administrator, said, "It's the public that has really suffered here. In the last year alone we had 583,000 visitors to this courthouse. This year we will be able to handle that capacity because of this additional space."
Now that phase one is complete, court administrators say the second phase of renovation is in the works and should be completed in two years.
