FAMU's Search for a New President

When the board names a new president in March, the next leader of the 119-year-old institution will be one of the two sitting presidents or a provost.

The three finalists are Thelma Thompson, James Ammons and Howard C. Johnson.

Thompson is the chief executive officer at UMES, where she was elected the "leading president for the University of Maryland.

Ammons, a FAMU graduate is the chancellor of North Carolina Central. He served as FAMU's provost from 1995-2001, after an earlier position of professor.

Johnson supervises 10 schools and colleges at Texas University. He also serves as the top administrator for continuing education, admissions and financial aid, the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science, institutional research and several other support units.

Co-chair of the search committee, R.B Holmes says the next president will be selected on or before March 8Th.
