The Last Getdown

Friday cleanup crews finished up after the last "Downtown Getdown" of the season. The last FSU home game for the 2003 season was Saturday against North Carolina. The drop in temperature is a sure sign that the final downtown get down was here. Kids were out with their parents, and of course garnet and gold could be seen every where.

The Tallahassee Coalition for the Homeless decided to take advantage of the successful finale get down.

"Because we knew there would be a big crowd here. We want people to know we are moving forward,” said Kay Freeman.

The event is called "A Night for Hope".

"Tallahassee doesn't have that stage where people who want to make a life change can do that," said Rev. Tom Dohrman.

The coalition wants to change that because they estimate there are more than 3,000 homeless in our community. They have a new plan to bring that number down. The Hope Community is a service center that provides help and shelter for the homeless.

It's the end of the season for the Downtown Getdown, but just the beginning for the Hope Community. The coalition says the Hope Community is not too far away from construction. It will be located on Pensacola Street and will offer services to help get folks back on their feet, financially and emotionally.
