Gov. Charlie Crist has appointed Tallahassee Police Chief Walt McNeil as head of Florida's Department of Juvenile Justice.
McNeil is taking over an agency that has seen its share of controversy in the past year as charges were filed against boot camp guards in Bay County and a young man was allegedly raped at a DJJ facility in Tallahassee.
Tallahassee Police spokesman John Newland says the city manager will begin a nationwide search for a new Tallahassee police chief and will have to appoint an interim chief soon.
