Local Woman Nominated for National "Hero" Award

For the past four years, Leslie Jacobs has been spreading the joy of horseback riding.

"My main mission is to help people with special needs to provide them horseback riding services or driving a wagon or just grooming the horses," says Leslie.

That's why Jacobs has been nominated as for Volvo's Hero for Life award. She could win up to $50,000 for her horse riding charity.

"I don't feel like it’s about me. This is about what we're doing. Some of them are in wheelchairs, some are in walkers some of them are independent and we provide some recreation needs that aren't being met through the school system. I just love the smiles and the job and the happiness, they laugh."

Volvo representatives will soon post Jacob's story in the Internet, and she hopes that this coverage will encourage more people to get involved with riding programs for people with special needs.

"We have so much hope that not just our center will benefit from this publicity, but other centers who are doing things like we are, will receive recognition in their communities."
