It’s time to cut back. Leon County commissioners are watching what they're spending during their first meeting of the year.
Commissioners say they're bracing for a possible initiative to double the homestead exemption in Florida with Gov. Crist hoping to put the measure before voters.
Leon County Chairman Ed Depuy said, "If we're going to take that sort of action that means we have limited revenues, so we better be tightening our belts and do exactly what Gov. Crist instructed us to do in his inaugural address, and that's to learn to live within our means, and that's what we're going to have to do."
If the Homestead Tax initiative is successful, it would cost Leon County about $10 million. Depuy says that will mean a cut back in some services.
