The Valdosta Big Brothers, Big Sisters program says it has more than 40 children waiting for a mentor.
Some have been waiting for more than a year.
Volunteers say what they get out of the partnership is priceless.
"I just hated knowing that there were people out there who didn't have someone just to spend time with and talk to and just share whatever it is that they were thinking about," said mentor Blake Taylor.
"He helps me learn about rules, what you are supposed to do in life. I learn a lot of things from him. We just do fun things," said ninth grader Joseph Campbell.
January 25 marks "National Thank Your Mentor Day."
