Florida's Education Commissioner Resigns

John Winn, a 30 year state employee, has served as Education Chief since 2004.

Unlike most of Former Gov. Jeb Bush’s appointees, Winn did not submit his resignation so that new Gov. Charlie Crist could pick a replacement.

Technically, Winn was appointed by the board of education and could not be fired outright.

But the commissioner has decided to exit of his own accord.

His resignation is effective February 28.
