Tree of Remembrance

Updated: Sun 8:59 PM, Nov 23, 2003

Hundreds gathered to remember their lost loved ones. The bells on a Christmas tree at the Tallahassee Mall represent the more than 1,000 residents who passed away while under the care of Big Bend Hospice.

Sunday, the tree was light up for the first time this season. This annual ceremony known as the "Service of Remembrance," gives the families of those who passed away a chance to grieve and share personal reflections with one another.

"What's really important to all of us are the people that we have loved that have been part of our lives, but by pausing at the tree of remembrance, we bring them back to the present," said Diane Tomasi, of the Big Ben Hospice.

Tomasi went on to say that the tree of remembrance can be seen at the Tallahassee Mall until Christmas eve.
