Sunday, members of the Memorial Missionary Baptist Church in Monticello, Florida hosted a celebration for the community, remembering Dr. Martin Luther King, Junior’s life.
Prayer, singing and smiles lit up the sanctuary. Leaders say this event is a good reminder of how the church helped Dr. King and other leaders accomplish their goals.
"Dr. King's role, not only as a civil rights leader, but also as the Minister, the church played a major role. Historically they met at churches for meetings and then all the different kinds of ministers were involved, and so it's only fitting that we have a church service," said Diane Hall, who is celebrating with the church.
The Martin Luther King Foundation of Florida presented the "Best Chapter Award in North Florida" to the Jefferson County Chapter of the NAACP at the event.
