Students presented poems, sand songs, and danced to much applause from the large crowd.

The program is geared towards Valdosta's youth, everyone from toddlers to teenagers, and parents were on hand to enjoy the festivities.

"It made it a lot easier for black people to come up in this world at a time when black people really couldn't do anything. They had black only water fountains. He made black and white people go to the same schools and have the same opportunities," said 15-year-old Ryan Binson.

More than seven different churches and both Lowndes and Valdosta High took part in this event.
