Officials say around 7:45 a.m. the staff at Cherry Laurel was cooking breakfast when an employee who was cooking with a greased pan, went to pour in some milk and it caused a flare-up.

The flare started a fire that set off sprinklers in the kitchen of the retirement home flooding the area.

Fire alarms sounded and the entire building was evacuated.

The fire sprinkler system contained the fire while the fire department rushed to the scene.

It may have been early, but officials say in this situation the fire alarm and sprinkler system worked perfectly.

"Larry Lowell, a resident says, The fire alarm went off and woke me up. Then I see people going down the hall. So, we all had to get together and go outside. I guess right now they're airing out the building , a lot of smoke in there."

Fire officials say in situations like this it's very important fire alarms and sprinkler systems are up to code and inspected.

An evacuation plan is also a good idea. No one was hurt in the fire.

How embarrassing. I'm glad everyone is ok.
