Updated 6:15 p.m.

Florida Highway Patrol was called out on a report that a body was lying in the middle of the road.

That body ended up being 17-year-old Quantarrius Bush.

His cousin Debra Lewis-Afford said, "Him and my son Bradley they played together, grew up together, next door neighbors. He was always quiet, always very mannerable, spoke very intelligently."

Lewis-Afford says someone called her son with the news that Bush's death was a hit and run.

She said, her son is in shock. "He's very upset. He's torn apart about Quan being ran over."

Troopers say Bush was struck and killed by a car around 4:00 Wednesday morning on Highway 90 near the Dollar General Store in Gretna.

The eastbound lane was blocked off as the teenager's body was left in the roadway.

Troopers say the usual evidence of a hit and run, such as car debris, was not found on the scene.

Therefore, they have to rely on Bush for any clues.

SGT Aaron Stephens with FHP said, "We collected the shoes as evidence. Also, we'll collect his clothing for evidence to try to determine if there are any paint chips in that clothing to try to match it to a specific type of vehicle."

Gadsden County resident Marvin Spencer said, "If they have any kind of conscience, they would turn themselves in. Hopefully they would. But, it's sad what happened."

Because that stretch of Highway 90 in Gretna is so dark, troopers say had the driver stopped after hitting Bush, they may not have been at fault.

But, that person fled the scene, so, if they get caught, they'll be facing felony charges.

Authorities say they don't know where Bush was going and why he was on the highway at that hour.

Troopers say they do not have any leads and ask anyone with information as to who hit Bush to call them at 414-8061.

Bush would've been a senior at East Gadsden High School.

The district spokesperson says they've seen a disproportionate number of traffic deaths among students at East Gadsden.

She says when school starts, they will see if any students need grief counseling.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say 17-year-old Quantarrius Bush was killed on Highway 90 in Gretna, Florida.

Troopers say it happened just after 4:00 Wednesday morning and say they're not sure if the victim was standing, walking, or lying in the roadway when he was hit.

Troopers say there was no evidence of a car on the scene.

SGT Aaron Stephens said, "A lot of times there's evidene left at the scene like a lens or a marker light, pieces of plastic; anything to go on to try to match up damage to when we find the vehicle to that vehicle. In this case, not right now."

Troopers say they do not have any leads at this time.

They ask anyone with information to call them at 414-8061.

to bigdog; every since this happened i've been feeling like this case will not be handeled correctly.. and when i read your comment about how the policeman handeled the case in bainbridge?it only made me wonder even more if this will go without being solved.. from the newspapers and people talking its like there is no evidence that can lead to a car or a person being involved in this case, and its sad that this young boy has lost his life and there is noone that will be held accountable.. im not saying that i know what was going on at the time, but if its gods will hopefully somehow things will come out in the open!because i feel like even if he was standing in the road or however things went?whoever was involved should've stayed at the scene to tell what happened!so evidently the person that was involved had to be feeling like they did something wrong!because they wasnt at the scene..
