Tallahassee sailors who fought and supported the War on Terrorism got an early Christmas gift, a day of fun with family and friends. It may sound small but having a day off as a reservist is hard to come by these days.
Sailors at the naval reserve center are full time civilians with part time duties in the military but if you ask them, serving their country is a full time job they signed up for.
“When the time comes you're ready. I've served 14 years, and am still in it because if my country needs me, I’m going to be there,” said Johnny Gonzalez.
Tallahassee Naval Officers say 25 percent of their men and women were sent to fight in the war on terrorism. Officers say many more are to be mobilized in the coming months.
