Pearl Harbor Anniversary

Updated: Mon 1:56 PM, Dec 08, 2003

Sunday marked the 62nd anniversary of what many consider one of the worst attacks ever on U.S soil. On December 7th, 1941, Japanese forces made a surprise attack on American and British territories, which included, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

The U.S Congress later declared war on Japan, marking the start of U.S involvement in World War II. An educator with the Museum of Florida history in Tallahassee says a recently added world war two exhibit has brought back memories for some area veterans.

“We have a lot of vets who come to the museum and they want to come and look at the names of people who died in the war. They often want to donate items that they have," said Maggie Sher with the Museum of Florida history.

Close to 2,400 Americans died as a result of the December 7th attack. A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C to the mark the anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack.
