And because of the combined effort hundreds of children in the Big Bend will have a brighter holiday season.
Santa Claus doesn't always show up in a reindeer pulled sleigh. Sometimes, "he" shows up in big trucks.
"We're picking up 125 bikes from Wal-Mart. We're looking to get 500 bikes,” says A.J. Smith.
This year the Cops for Kids drive is determined to make even more kids in the Big Bend happy for the holidays.
Cops for Kids will make sure the bikes are sent out all over the Big Bend, to different organizations.
"Every year, we get a number of bikes from Cops for Kids. We have a party and give them the bikes,” comments Buddy Streit.
And those who have seen the bikes delivered to the anxiously waiting children say there's nothing like it.
At this point, the Cops for Kids, a.k.a. Santa Claus 2003 have raised more than $6,000 for the bikes and helmets.
They say, that's just the beginning.
Monday, the pick up was at Wal-Mart for 125 five bikes, which brings the tally up to almost 400 bikes and helmets that have been purchased.
Once again the goal is at least 500 and that number may go up.
