Another homicide probe was underway in south Georgia Monday afternoon. Investigators say it was a domestic dispute that led to the murder of a Grady County woman over the weekend.
Tire tracks from when the suspect sped away from the scene at 785 Pine Level Road is the only evidence left for investigators. Authorities say 32-year old Carlos Chavez stabbed his girlfriend, 52-year old Betty Power, to death Saturday night.
"We had a white female who was found dead in the yard, of her residence. Apparent cause of death of was multiple stab wounds,” said agent Ronnie Thompson.
Neighbors of the couple are still distraught and mourning the life of a good person and friend. The neighbor who called 9-1-1 was in tears when explaining how she found the victim. The neighbor says power collapsed near the neighbor's backyard squealing for help, but it didn't arrive soon enough.
The neighbors of the victim and suspect say the couple appeared to be very happy and they never expected anything like this. However, they believe Chavez accused the woman of cheating, which lead him to a jealous rage."
"He has been charged with at least one count of murder there may be other charges pending"
Neighbors say they are at peace knowing Chavez will pay for the crime he committed, but say there's one thing that remains a mystery to them why jealousy lead a seemingly harmless man to take the life of another.
Chavez is being held in custody at the Grady County Sheriff's Office. If found guilty of murder, Chavez faces life in prison.
