Gearing Up for State Playoffs

The city of Valdosta is getting ready to host the high school championship game for the first time in five years. Tickets for Saturday's big game went on sale to the general public Wednesday afternoon.

The demand for tickets is huge. People spent hours in line Wednesday waiting for their chance to watch Valdosta high play for its 24th state title.

A huge crowd waited in line for tickets, and fans say despite the wait they are thrilled about Saturday's game.

"The excitement is high, it don't take much for Valdosta to get excited about Wildcat football, it just comes naturally, its in your blood," said Bruce Shaw, VHS Class '79

Sam Allen, Superintendent VLD City Schools, said, "We're very excited, what a way to end our season, it’s been a Cinderella story all year long. Starting 1-3, and here we are vying for the state championship."

It will not only be the final home game for Valdosta High seniors, but the final game before Bazemore-Hyder stadium's $6 million renovation.

"I think it’s real important, especially because it’s the last year before the stadium gets changed, and because we haven't been to the title game in a while. We have a new coach, its a great opportunity for Valdosta," said Miles Hannan.

With tickets such a hot commodity, the wildcats should enjoy the support of a packed house

"It don't matter if there's 10,000 or 10, we're going to play hard, scratch and claw, it’s good to have a crowd, but as a coach and a player, you don't hardly pay much attention to it," said Coach Darlington, head coach at VHS.

While the team remains focused on what happens on the field, fans say they are anxiously anticipating Saturday's game. Fans in the peach state can enjoy the game from the comfort of their own home, as the game will be televised state wide on Georgia Public Television.

Of course, we'll have the highlights Saturday night on Eyewitness News at 11.
