Crawfordville resident Michelle Adamski is in the process of building a home. It may look like any other house from the outside, but it’s actually very unique.

It’s one of the very first green homes in Wakulla County.

"It's not only energy efficient, environmentally friendly, but sustainable in the long run."

Home builder Stan Derzypolski just completed a green home in Crawfordville, FL, loaded with energy efficient appliances and materials.

"A lot of it has to do with where it’s planned, when it’s built, how it’s built, what material is used to build it," he said.

"If it cost you $25 a month more on your mortgage, but you're saving $50 on your utility bill, you're coming out a lot further ahead."

A lot of planning goes into building or buying a green home. The builder must pass 200 energy efficient standards all meant to save energy, water and the environment.

"The more we do to reduce the co2 going into the atmosphere the better off we're gonna be," said Derzypolski

Adamski hopes more of her neighbors will go green.

"Wakulla County is very proud of its natural environment, and so we're hoping this is a trend that continues."
