The three adults living in the home are safe and sound this afternoon, and so are their pets, but one of the family's six cats had to use one its nine lives, with the help of first responders.
The fire started around 1:30 Friday morning at a home on the corner of Ridge Road and Maurice Street.
Tallahassee firefighters were on scene about five minutes after getting the call.
Firefighters were able to rescue the six adult cats from the home, but one was unconscious, but emergency responders were able to revive the cat.
As for the house, the fire department says the home is not a total loss, but it is unlivable.
According to the fire department, the family was awakened when a heating device exploded in the bedroom, but the actual cause of the fire is still under investigation.
