Looking Ahead to the New Year

The Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce is striking up dialogue directed towards what is on the horizon for the capital city. It's known as “The Horizon Project”, and Thursday local community leaders voiced the opportunities and challenges facing the area.

As a man washes windows, one block away local leaders are trying to wash away obstacles clouding the future of Tallahassee. They are trying to build bridges to overcome the barriers blocking the path to safer neighborhoods, affordable health care and economic growth for the capitol city and beyond, spelling out the opportunities and speaking out about the challenges like the consolidation of local government.

Identifying stumbling blocks clears the way for state lawmakers to step in and possibly help improve the quality of life in Tallahassee.

"Helps us identify issues and priorities in our community and what we can take to legislature and government office in terms of what needs to be done in our community."

Leaders hope all walks of life will benefit from their brainstorming efforts during the Horizon Project.

The next Horizon Project meeting is scheduled for January 9 beginning at 8:30 a.m. until noon, at the Florida League of Cities building. The public is invited to attend.
