More than 50 people have applied to become Tallahassee's next police chief.
Applications were due at City Hall Friday as folks vie to replace Chief Walt McNeil, who left to head up Florida's Department of Juvenile Justice.
The applications have come from far and wide.
"We've received applications from all over the country, as far as California, from New York, the Midwest, Southeast, a number from Florida. We have a very good sampling and we're still taking applications right now," said City of Tallahassee spokeswoman Stefanie Long.
We have put in a public records request to try to get the list of applicants' names.
We do know that Interim Chief John Proctor, Deputy Chief Rafael Hernandez and Captain Argatha Gilmore have all applied from within the department.
