Tuesday, area middle and high schoolers got a taste of black history through the lives of local leaders.
As part of Black History Month, Tallahassee Community College held a youth day celebration.
Students heard stories of how a few of our local leaders overcame adversity to achieve success.
"I remember the days when we could not go to the public library and use the facilities like others, but this tells me how far we have come. We still must work hard because there is much more improvement to be done," said Cherry Alexander, organizer of the Black History Youth Day event.
Guests speakers for the event included the student body presidents of both Florida A&M and Florida State Universities.
