Marijuana Policy

An area group is trying to put a controversial issue on the ballot this November. They want to change the law in the capitol city to make marijuana the lowest priority for Tallahassee law enforcement.

The group "Tallahasseans for Practical Law Enforcement" held a symposium Saturday at Florida State University to get support for their cause.

Supporters claim the initiative will save the city money because they no longer spend funds arresting, prosecuting and jailing people for small drug offences. One organizer explained the purpose of the measure.

“We are trying to ask our law enforcement to focus on serious crimes so that people caught with small amounts of marijuana will not be prosecuted in the justice system,” Richard Bradford, Director of the TPLE.

Currently, the 60 volunteers say they have collected more than two thousand of the nine thousand signatures they need to get on the November ballot.
