Attempted Murder Fugitive Nabbed in Tallahassee

A man wanted for murder has been found in Tallahassee. The fugitive was evading charges in Hagerstown, Maryland.

Twenty-six-year-old Luis Santiago, Jr. had an outstanding warrant for attempted second-degree murder.

Tallahassee police's career criminal unit found Santiago at 2305 Killearn Center Blvd Friday morning. Santiago was staying with a relative at The Plantations at Killearn apartment complex.

Neighbors had no idea.

Dee Davis, a resident, said, "It's very frightening when you live in a place and you don't really know what's going on. We're lucky to have such good law enforcement people here."

The North Florida Violent Fugitive Task Force assisted with the arrest. Santiago is in the Leon County Jail, awaiting extradition back to Maryland.

Police say Santiago had been staying at those apartments for the last few weeks and his relative there was not aware that he was a wanted man.

TPD says Santiago fled to Tallahassee immediately after the Maryland incident. They're not sure exactly what he did, but an anonymous tip came in, and within 24 hours TPD made the arrest.
