Curbing DUI's

On February 1 the streets may be a little safer thanks in part to a new law taking effect. Repeat DUI offenders must now pass a breath test to be able to start-up and drive their cars.

Officers hope it keeps DUI offenses to a minimum and gives them more time to deal with crime prevention.

“It's not uncommon for us to arrest somebody for dui who has a prior dui arrest and either is driving intoxicated for a second third fourth time or is driving on a suspended license,” said Lt. Ken Bergstrom of the Tallahassee Police Department.

Leon County is ranked ninth in the state for alcohol related accidents. Records show 70-75 percent of drunk driving accidents are caused by repeat offenders.
