A FAMU student is named the school's new student leader while carrying on a family legacy.
This week FAMU student Monique Gillum was named student body president, carrying on the legacy of older brother, Andrew Gillum.
Andrew once served as FAMU SGA president and went on to become Tallahassee city commissioner in 2003.
Monique says she and her brother are like close friends and she feels proud to follow in his footsteps.
"I think we both have a passion to serve. It is a servant type of leadership. We just really love people. We have the spirit to make a difference and I think people see that," she said.
Monique Gillum has become the first woman to serve on FAMU's Board of Trustees as a student representative.
