Haitian Uprising

Cabinet minister and close adviser Leslie Voltaire says President Jean-Bertrand Aristide left Haiti Sunday morning on his way to neighboring Dominican Republic.

Voltaire said Aristide, Haiti's first democratically-elected president, will seek asylum in Morocco, Taiwan or Panama a day after the White House suggested that Aristide should consider leaving office.

Local the news hit hard in Tallahassee where some locals with Haitian ties continue to talk about the recent uprising. Some say the horror may result in positive change.

“It breaks my heart to think of what my people are going through, I'm also gladdened, maybe peace will come into a country of chaos,” said Peggy Gustave, a Haitian, living in Tallahassee.
