More than 700 men women and children in our community will spend tonight on the streets.

The Tallahassee Coalition for the Homeless has a simple vision to end homelessness one person at a time, and they hope to accomplish this mission this spring as they begin construction on a temporary shelter.

The streets of Tallahassee use to be Douglas Throm's home, now he's using his experience to lend a helping hand to the homeless community.

The Tallahassee Coalition for the Homeless is trying to create a state of the art transitional facility for homeless people. Friday, the agency marked the halfway point with a check presentation.

The agency received two checks from the Department of Housing and Urban Development totaling nearly $500,000 to begin the construction work.

Unlike the shelter on Tennessee Street, folks will be able to stay at the "Hope Community" for an extended time.
