Barbers & Cosmetologists Will Get Address-Free Licenses

Barbers and cosmetologists are required by Florida law to post their license and picture where customers can see it. Until now, that included their home address.
Effective Tuesday October 6th, the state will print licenses without that personal information to try to spare stylists from having trouble show up at their doorstep.
Lorenzo Smith is a regular customer here at Superior Design and says he's honestly never noticed his barber's home address posted right there on the mirror.
"As long as I know he has a license, it's personally all right with me. I don't need to know his address and all that because I come right here and get a haircut and I'm good to go,' Smith said.
Raymond Barnes usually cuts hair by appointment but says walks in are a significant cut of his business. That's why he's especially glad to hear the next time he renews his license, it will not include his home address.
"There's a lot of people you don't know, so sometimes it's good that your address is not on there because it could fall into the wrong hands, "Barnes said.
A spokeswoman with Florida's Department of Business and Professional Regulation says the change wasn't prompted by a particular incident or crime. It is a purely a safety precaution, she says, requested by those representing the state's nearly 200-thousand barbers and cosmetologists.
"I have had concerns, not enough to do anything about or say anything about, but you always wonder who's looking at it, who's sitting in your chair looking at it," said Tabatha Browning, who's been a stylist at Chelsea's salon for the past seven years. "I'm glad it's getting changed because then it kind of clears up that worry that you have," she said.
